Alpental Volunteer Ski Patrol

2015 OEC Refresher B

Here is the same information you received in an email from Tammy and Jim with more detail.

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN! Grab the 2015 Refresher Workbook you should have received in the mail and dig out the Outdoor Emergency Care Manual (Fifth Edition).  As we did last year, we will again use a hybrid approach to the Outdoor Emergency Care Refresher for 2015.  The hybrid approach includes a workbook with a written answer component, an online quiz, and a hands-on skills demonstration session.   All the hands-on skills demonstration sessions will be held at Alpental.  Here is what you will need to do this year to satisfy OEC refresher requirements:

1.       Review and complete the assignments in your REFRESHER WORKBOOK.

2.       Register for an OEC Refresher date using MyPatrol.org and print an event ticket.  The MyPatrol.org event page will supply you with the appropriate online course number (also listed below).

3.       Register for the associated 2015 OEC Refresher B Course using Nsp.org to Knowledge Direct Web (or use Knowledge Direct Web directly).

4.       Complete the “Hybrid Online” portion of OEC Refresher B 2015 at Knowledge Direct Web.

5.       Print the Certificate documenting your completion of the online portion.

6.       Bring your event ticket, completed workbook and printed certificate to your scheduled Skills and Scenario Session.  YOU MUST HAVE BOTH A COMPLETED WORKBOOK AND PRINTED CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION FOR THE HYBRID ONLINE PORTION OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SKILLS COMPONENT!

In addition … please bring:

·         A Summit at Snoqualmie Volunteer Patrol Information Sheet and Liability Release form

·         A National Ski Patrol System Event/Training Release Form

·         A fully stocked fanny/back pack

·         Lunch

·         Your OEC Card

·         Liability forms – NSP and Summit at Snoqualmie

Note that there is a HARD limit of 90 participants on each OEC Refresher date, no exceptions, so pick your date and register as soon as possible.  Also, you must sign up and complete the online portion at least 24 hours prior to your OEC Refresher date.

WHAT ABOUT CPR?

CPR is not part of the OEC Refresher, however we will have 90 minute breaks scheduled for each group during which you may optionally attend a CPR Refresher Session.  Note that if you choose not to attend you will be responsible for getting (paying for?) your CPR Refresher with another organization.  If you choose to attend, please bring:

·         CPR Mask

·         $5.00 for a new card, which everyone will need

SKILLS AND SCENARIO SESSIONS

All the Skills and Scenario Sessions will be held at Alpental.  Registration starts at 07:00am; Stations start at 08:00am.  BE ON TIME!  Your choices for a Session are:

COURSE MODULE NOTES

(1)    The modules are pretty self explanatory.  A video is used to present information and/or introduce a time delay to “allow” the information presented to be reviewed

(2)    You must wait for the audio to complete before proceeding (if desired you can drag the video position control to the right to speed up the process).

(3)    When you enter a module you must click on the right arrow in the video area to start.  Subsequent questions will proceed without intervention.

(4)    You will be informed if your answer is correct or incorrect.  If incorrect, rather than starting over, you will be allowed to select (hopefully) the correct answer.

(5)    You may stop the process at any point during a module.  When you re-enter the module you will be taken back to where you left off.
